The School Spider mobile application is a bespoke Android and iOS hybrid web application created by myself for my client School Spider. The application is built using mobile web hybrid technologies including: Handlebars.js, Javascript, jQuery, HTML, CSS and Phonegap. School Spider provide a Virtual Learning Environment in over 250 primary schools in the United Kingdom. Adopting an agile methodology has been critical to the success of the application and with the recent launch of version 1.2, the application has now reached over 8,000 downloads in both Android and iOS stores. The application communicates with School Spiders existing Virtual Learning Environment. I was able to work with their in house PHP developer to produce an API to communicate between the mobile application and server. Parents of children attending schools using School Spider are able to book parents evenings, reply to parent forums and fill out surveys for their child(s) through a secured log-in facility built in to the application. The application is also capable of receiving push notifications, viewing and downloading files, previewing news, events, galleries and school blogs.
